Punch House’s history is steeped in the maritime origins of its namesake drink.

When British sailors made the voyage to India and back during the 17th century, they diluted their rum rations with sugar and spices, from which sprang the five tenets of quality, balanced punch: “strong, weak, bitter, sour & sweet.”

Each of these elements is now skillfully interpreted in the venue’s novel cocktail menu under the direction of 16” On Center’s Beverage Director, Mark Phelan. With unique design, Punch House’s mid-century modern, wood-paneled aesthetic is accented by seafaring trophy fish, retro pendant lamps and furniture out of a 1960s rumpus room — a scene that prompted Thrillist to name Punch House one of the “Best New Bars in America.”

Located in Pilsen’s historical Thalia Hall, Punch House is a lively, maritime-inspired basement bar.

Divided into centuries-old “classic” recipes and more recent “contemporary” libations, the punches are presented to guests in mismatched vintage glassware sourced from antique dealers across the country.

Paired with the bar’s quirky allure characterized by its memorable vinyl booths, Punch House is perfect for gathering to enjoy one of the menu's countless punch offerings. Tied together by a variety of East and West Coast oysters and its new noteworthy McPunch Fish Sandwich, the food menu follows suit with a tongue-in-cheek take on selections.
